Studying the business of an arts organisation

By working together, Leeds University Business School and Opera North are providing students with the opportunity to explore 'live' management challenges facing the cultural sector. Reciprocally, arts organisations are also benefiting from new knowledge and information that can inform business planning.

This year, MBA Executives are working with DARE and six cultural organisations in Leeds to explore the potential for cost saving and increased efficiency through collective procurement and shared back-office resources.

In 2009/10, MBA students experienced the operation, challenge and management of Opera North as a cultural institution through two group projects. The first evaluated the economic and social impact of Opera North on Leeds and the wider region. The second explored a strategy that responds to the actual and potential impact of the credit crunch on Opera North.
