A Pettman Dare Fellowship provides early career professionals in music engagement with the opportunity to undertake an intensive year of practice-led research before progressing to the next stage in their career.
As a post-graduate student at the University of Leeds the Fellow studies for a Post-Graduate Diploma.
Over half the time is spent actively involved at the heart of Opera North Education, working with the team on either the planning and project management of music education initiatives or in developing skills in the choral or instrumental delivery of activity in schools and community settings.
This is complemented by the study of relevant Masters-level modules at the University.
In addition to experience at two of the most significant music education and higher education institutions in the country, Fellows have back-office access to the Opera North production and performance programme and to the huge range of student activity at the University.
The Fellowship runs September 2017 – August 2018.
One Fellowship is awarded to an EEA citizen and one to a New Zealand citizen.
Applications for the NZ Fellowship are now closed. Callum Blackmore from Auckland has been appointed and will spend the final two months (July and August) in New Zealand, supporting the development of Music Education activity with New Zealand Opera and the University of Auckland.
The Scholarships are fully funded through the generous support of Professor Barrie and Mrs Maureen Pettman, through the Opera North Future Fund. The Pettman Dare Scholarship programme is delivered through DARE, a unique partnership between Opera North and the University of Leeds in the UK. DARE is joined by New Zealand Opera and the University of Auckland in New Zealand. For further information or to register an interest please contact DARE manager Lesley Patrick, Lesley@dareyou.org.uk
