Internships, master-classes, projects…

A bespoke programme which supports learning, career development and knowledge sharing in the arts.

Students, staff and practitioners from the University and Opera North work together at the heart of each organisation, from observation of rehearsals and participation in masterclasses, to the delivery of primary school workshops and the creation of the first Opera North Archive.

“I wanted to write and tell you how indebted I am to the DARE programme.  I did an undergraduate placement, then a post-graduate internship at Opera North.  I had the time of my life and fell in love with the Company.   Through the internship I got the job of Chorus and Orchestra Assistant.  Being at Opera North enabled me to realise that I want to be in a rehearsal room helping to create work.   I could ask a senior manager for advice and gain experience in the field I want to be in.  It was the DARE placement that started it all for me, it is the most incredible scheme – I owe my future career to it!  Emma Black, freelance assistant director, former University of Leeds student, DARE intern and Chorus and Orchestra assistant, Opera North
